Bush, Garcia Sign Peru Agreement to Expand U.S. Exports to Latin America

Washington (Dec. 14)—President George W. Bush and President Alan Garcia of Peru met at the White House for the signing of H.R. 3688, The United States-Peru Trade Promotion Agreement Implementation Act. In signing the legislation President Bush said, “The bill will help increase opportunities for workers, ranchers, farmers and businessmen in both our countries.” There are three agreements still pending before Congress with Colombia, Panama and South Korea. Secretary Gutierrez Praises Senate Passage of the U.S-Peru Trade Promotion Agreement

Washington (Dec. 4)—Commerce Secretary Carlos M. Gutierrez issued the following statement applauding the U.S. Senate passage of the U.S.-Peru Trade Promotion Agreement. “I commend Chairman Baucus, Senator Grassley and the U.S. Senate for its overwhelming support of the U.S.-Peru Trade Promotion Agreement. With this final vote, Congress will boost both nations’ economies and remove barriers for U.S. exports to that market.” The Secretary led a bipartisan Congressional delegation to Peru in September and is pictured with Peruvian President Garcia and members of the delegation. Gutierrez Says U.S. Exports Will Grow with Colombia Pact

Washington (Dec. 3)—U.S. Commerce Secretary Carlos M. Gutierrez spoke at the Heritage Foundation’s event, “Colombia and the United States: Partners in Security, Partners in Prosperity.” He discussed the progress that Colombia has made as a nation, and urged approval of the Colombia trade agreement, which will boost U.S. exports.
